Tamur - Jewel of the East
ImageThis epic adventure combines the Himalaya's 2 greatest features - steep rivers and High Mountain peaks. We begin due east in Basantapur where we journey deep into the rhodedendrum jeweled jungle. These hills are home to tribes of Rai and Limbu communities’ infamouse for their strength, cunning and ability to live off the land. As you can rightly imagine we hire our porters locally to support their economy, share culture and enjoy their infamous local brew - tungba.

We trek for 4 days through a maze of green hills and lush rice terraces. As we reach the sacred lake, Gupha Pokhari, above 10,000 feet we are met with commanding views of Kanchenjunga, Everest and Makalu. As we descend we begin to see the Mighty Tamur River.

We put in at Dhoban the base of the 3 main tributaries feeding into the Tamur. The steep grade coupled with high volume water creates a full-on whitewater explosion. The rapids are so continuous its hard to know where one ends the next begins - a raft rapid and maneuver technical drops. After 5 days of sheer adrenaline the canyon walls give to the majestic wide expanse that is the Sun Kosi.
